A call for the award of one Research Grant (BI) is open at Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (IPV) under the project PRR-C05-i03-I-000190 – RumiRes: Epidemiological Surveillance and Awareness of Antimicrobial Resistance and Drug Residues in Small Ruminants of the Centre Region, under the provisions of paragraph a) of No. 1 of Article 2 of the Research Grant Holder Statute, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019 of 28 August, under the following conditions:

Application Requirements:

Students enrolled in a master’s degree in veterinary sciences/Animal Sciences/Agrarian Sciences or similar areas or Licensee students in Veterinary Sciences/Animal Sciences/Agrarian Sciences or similar areas enrolled in non-academic degree courses integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

The proof of registration must be completed until the contract is signed, and the candidate can attach a declaration of commitment to honor that he/she meets the admission requirements.

If the degree was conferred by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of contracting.

Work Plan:

Collaboration in different tasks within the context of the project, namely:

(1) Collection of biological and environmental samples in small ruminant farms in the Central region of Portugal;

(2) Collection of data on the use of antibiotics and antiparasitic drugs on small ruminant farms in the Central region of Portugal;

(3) Application of questionnaires to Veterinarians and Producers on the Use of Antibiotics and Antiparasitic drugs;

(4) Participation in awareness actions aimed at Veterinarians and Livestock Producers on the use of antibiotics and antiparasitic drugs in small ruminants;

(5) Participation in actions to publicize the project and

(6) Report writing.

Legislation and applicable regulations: Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August, which approves the Statute of the Scientific Research Grant Holder, by Decree-Law no. 202/2012, of 27 August, by Law no. 12/2013, of 29 January, by Decree-Law no. 89/2013, of 9 July and by Decree-Law no. No. 123/2019, of 28 August, FCT Research Grant Regulations, available at and https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt and Scientific Research Grant Regulations of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, No. 112, of 09 June 2020.

Workplace: The work will be developed at Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu and on small ruminant farms in the central region of Portugal, under the scientific guidance of Professor Maria de Aires Machado Pereira.

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, starting on January 2024, and may be renewed up to the maximum period provided for in article 3, paragraph 2 of the Statute of Research Fellows, and cannot, in any case, exceed the end of the project.

Amount of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to € 930,98, according to the table of values of grants established for this type of scholarship by the FCT (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).

The scholarship will be paid monthly, between the 20th and 30th of each month by bank transfer to the NIB of the Scholarship Holder indicated in the Contracting Process.

Selection Method: Applications will be assessed on the basis of the merit of the candidate and his/her curriculum vitae, and the jury may call for an interview to assess the candidate’s communication skills and knowledge acquired from the work already carried out, with the respective valuation:

A. Basic academic qualification (30%); B. Proven experience in recent research, demonstration and dissemination activities in the scientific area of the application (40%); C. Interview (30%). The three best ranked in the sum of criteria A and B will be selected for the interview.

Form of publication/notification of results: The results will be published in an ordered list and posted in a visible and public place of the Central Services of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu. The selected candidate will be notified via e-mail.

By deliberation of the jury, a scholarship of candidates may be constituted, with a validity of 18 months after the date of finalization of the selection process.

The final results will always be conditioned and subject to the obligation to comply with the provisions of the Research Fellow Statute.

After disclosure of the evaluation results project, candidates have 10 working days to comment if they so wish under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure (CPA). The final decision will be taken within a maximum period of 15 working days after the conclusion of the prior hearing of interested parties, of which a claim may be lodged within 15 working days after notification.

Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by email to ipv_nbolseiro@sc.ipv.pt indicating the project reference in the subject (Project PRR-C05-i03-I-000190 – RumiRes – Licensee), accompanied by the following documents:

– Declaration under oath on how the candidate will enroll until the contracting date in a Master’s or Integrated Master’s in the scientific area of Veterinary Sciences, Animal Science/Agrarian Sciences or similar or in a non-academic course integrated in the educational project of a Portuguese higher education institution in the terms required as conditions of admission, or proof of the mentioned enrolments;

– Licensee certificates and other relevant certificates;

– Detailed Curriculum Vitae, with telephone contact, e-mail and documents considered relevant by the candidate.

Applications delivered by hand or by post will not be accepted.

The conditional selection will only lead to effective hiring if the candidate has submitted all the documents required for hiring, namely, proof of registration or enrolment in a course leading to a master’s, doctoral degree or non-academic degree course and also proof of the academic qualifications required for the type of scholarship.
